I run contra.guide as a small community project. It has no visitor accounts, ads, or tracking cookies.

When you search

When you type a location, the site sends that text to its own server to look up matching cities. Once you choose one, the city and distance settings go into the page's URL so you can bookmark or share the results. The site never asks your phone or browser for your precise location.

I keep a daily count of searches by city and whether they returned results. I also count obvious bots separately. I do not save your IP address, the exact text you typed, your browser details, a visitor ID, or a cookie with those counts. The browser information is checked long enough to spot bots and then discarded.

What the server sees

Like any website, the server sees your IP address, some basic browser information, the page you asked for, and the time of the request. Some of that may appear in routine server logs used to keep the site working and secure. I do not use it to follow people around the site or build profiles about them.

The public site does not set cookies or save anything in local browser storage. There is a session cookie for the private administration area, but ordinary visitors never need or receive it.

Email and event listings

If you email me, I receive your email address and message. I may keep the conversation so I can reply or keep track of a correction to an event listing.

The event listings come from public dance websites. They can include public details such as venues, prices, callers, musicians, and organizers. I do not collect attendee lists. If something about you or your event is wrong, email me and I will fix it.

Links and calendars

If you add a calendar feed or follow a link to an event website, those services have their own privacy practices.

Questions

I do not sell or rent personal information. If you have a privacy question, want an email deleted, or want a listing corrected, write to contact@contra.guide.

If any of this changes, I will update this page and the date at the top.
